Modular All-in-One POS
Your modules. Your setup. Your POS. It’s up to you: modernize your existing system or implement a completely new POS experience. Flexible. Process-oriented. Florence.
The next upgrade is a module, not a system swap.
Four patterns routinely lead to POS hardware being replaced while most of it is still working. They share the same root cause - and that is exactly what the Florence architecture addresses.
What works at one site does not fit the next: different counter, different peripherals, different requirement. Standardising across a large estate fails on the exceptions.
The port layout is locked in at the time of order. Add a device that does not fit and the only options are a hub under the counter or a new system.
On conventional devices the interfaces stay openly accessible even when mounted - with no port control and no record of who connected what.
The entire device is written off although the larger part of it would still carry its duty. That is capital leaving the asset base early.
That is why Florence is built modular - a patent-pending connector system instead of a sealed enclosure.
See the principle
The longest-lived layer. It is not tied to the computer behind it - so the hardware generation does not decide how long a display stays at the station.
The fastest-ageing layer. Because compute lives here and nowhere else, a generation change is a Box swap - and touches no other layer.
The most frequently changing layer. That is why it is the freely configurable one: ports follow the workstation, not an order placed three years ago.
Modularity is not an end in itself. It pays off in specific moments - usually the ones the procurement plan never accounted for.
In most cases the whole terminal is replaced on the shortest cycle inside it. Because the three Florence layers are independent, each carries its own cycle - and what gets renewed is what is actually spent.
The rest of the system stays in service - and on the asset register.
The ISV-certified driver base persists across hardware changes - the software does not have to be tested again.
Every configuration draws on the same components - no matter how many variants are in the field.
An example: a weighing station in food retail with scanner, scale, receipt printer, cash drawer and one legacy serial device. The Main Brick is given, three option modules are added - and one slot stays free for later.
A checkout station is not judged on a datasheet but at the counter: when something is plugged in, when something fails, during a shift. Three consequences of the modular architecture that make the difference in operation.
Scanner, scale, printer, cash drawer: every port sits in the Brick Hub, within reach of the operator. No feeling around behind the device, no pulling it out of the counter.
If the computer fails, the Box is lifted off and replaced - display, ports and cabling stay in the counter. The workstation does not have to be dismantled and set up again.
The Box is passively cooled. At counters with flour, grease or dust there is no fan to clog - and on the sales floor no running noise beside the operator.
